If you mean in DS, I couldn't get it to work either. The top, anyway. It has a custom texture as it just didn't work in DS with all the nodes they used.

I figured out a way to get something that looked about right once, but it was so complicated I can't remember exactly what I did. :)

Well done, but... ;)

Attempt at constructive criticism.

It would be more dramatic WITHOUT the light from the right (her left). I know why you did it, but having her come from darkness would (perhaps) give it more oomph.
The light from the staff looks a bit flat, did you enable shadows for it? (did you use an area light?)

Odd additional thought: Perhaps the blue gems in her jewelry could have been slightly glowing too.

Anyway, way above my work, so kudos!

Thank you very much for the constructive reply! I think the backlighting is simply a habit, which I should definitely think about before actually applying it. haha As for the light shadows, well, I'm not sure. The white part is supposed to be the pure light and yes I used an area light applied to the inner staff surface :D

Now that I look at it, yeah, I think maybe the jewels could have been given more of a glow. I'm always afraid of over-glowing haha

Thank you again for your comment! :D

My pleasure ;) I always feel slightly guilty for criticism. But I try to be constructive. We live and learn, well, some of us do. Others are just too stubborn. ;-)

Love it! For a newb like me, how did you do the lights on the staff?
Reply
:iconleandradawn:

The top part (the ball) is just the default staff with some postwork on it and a custom texture. The stick part is actually two staves. One, the outer layer, has the default texture on it with a custom transparency (that gets rid of the indented blue area and lets the light shine through). The other staff is inside it (scaled slightly smaller) and a light was applied to it using Uber Area Light (Daz Studio only). I also removed the texture of the inner staff and applied ambient surface of a blueish color at 100%.

To get the glow on the hand, I had to render it separately with significantly brighter light. If you have any questions or want more detail feel free to note me! :D Thank you for your kind words and your interest!
